The story of Addenda Capital is rooted in Co-operators, which became Canada’s first cooperative multiline insurance provider in 1945 and later expanded into investment through Co-operators Investment Counsel Limited in 1985.
Addenda was founded in 1996 by Carmand Normand, whose leadership quickly positioned the firm as a reference in Canadian bond market analysis. In 2008, Co-operators acquired Addenda, uniting two experienced investment teams and strengthening the firm’s national presence.
Guided by values of sustainability and community wellbeing, Addenda broadened its vision of investing. In 2012, the firm created a dedicated sustainable investing team, recognizing that its role extended beyond returns to shaping a more resilient future. This commitment helped establish Addenda as one of Canada’s leading voices in sustainable finance.
